Speed, darkness and alcohol were all factors in the crash that killed the two men Saturday as they rode through Namadji State Forest near Nickerson, MN.
That's according to the Pine County Sheriff's Office, which says the men died instantly when they crashed head on just before midnight while riding their dirt bikes.
Authorities say 25-year olds Edward Bebeau of Dayton and Jason Pouti of Elk River were camping at the forest with three other men from the metro area Saturday.
The group had come back to their campsite after a night of drinking at the bar when the two men began riding their dirt bikes and collided.
"It's very, very large and there are many trails," said Pine County Chief Deputy Steve Ovick referring to the area. "If you're unfamiliar with the area or don't know where your partners are at, it's a recipe for disaster."
