A former Minneapolis Police officer is accused of trying to steal drugs from the University of Minnesota Medical Center.
James Kaju faces a charge of third degree burglary.
U of M Police arrested Kaju on Sunday after hospital staff found him in a restricted cardiovascular service area.
According to the criminal complaint, Kaju tried to steal 'fentanyl citrate'.
Kaju left the Minnepaolis Police department nine years ago after he developed kidney disease.
Police tell us Kaju developed an addiction to his medication.
