HUDSON, Wis. -- The St. Croix County sheriff says the deaths of two brothers in May involved drugs.
Sheriff Dennis Hillstead said Wednesday the deaths of 44-year-old Gregory Knoll and 41-year-old Jeffrey Knoll remain under investigation. He declined to elaborate.
Investigators believe the brothers had been dead for at least two weeks before their landlord in the village of Burkhardt discovered their remains in their apartment May 27.
Hillstead says investigators have not ruled out that a crime was involved.
He says there are complications in the deaths, and he's waiting for a complete toxicology report showing everything in their blood.
Hillstead has said the brothers were known to drink and party and they had sought treatment for drug and alcohol addictions.
