COPPER MOUNTAIN, Co. - The only full-length downhill training venue in the world available early season, the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center at Copper Mountain, opened for training on Copper's opening day - Nov. 1 - kicking off the road to Sochi training on Colorado snow .
The full team of Olympic hopefuls, including Ted Ligety, Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin will be introduced Friday during the Nature Valley First Tracks Alpine Team Naming - a free all-American pep-rally open to the public to kick off the ski and snowboard season.
The day is packed full of events and begins with a U.S. Ski Team vendor village in Burning Stones Plaza located in Center Village from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spyder, Nature Valley and many more will be on hand to pass out free giveaways to Copper Mountain guests.
Fans are invited to check out the U.S. Ski Team in action with on-snow training beginning at 12 p.m. in East Village, at the base of the U.S. Ski Team Speed Center. Before the official naming kicks off, kids and parents are invited to decorate posters as they cheer on their favorite athletes from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Copper Conference Center, located in Center Village. Athletes will be paraded by fans into Burning Stones Plaza where the "Believe in U.S." Pep Rally will take place, naming the official 2014 U.S. Alpine Ski Team.
Members announced will represent the U.S. in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The Swon Brothers are set to take the stage at 4:30 p.m. in Burning Stones Plaza, Center Village.
