MINNEAPOLIS - Many Minnesotans are in the middle of their healthcare benefits enrollment for 2014, similar to many other businesses in the state.
For some of us, it means shopping around and with all the talk about MNsure.org, it only made sense to head online and check it out, but as we quickly found out, Sundays and holidays are not the time to shop.
The hours for the MNsure website are Monday through Saturday, you cannot search for coverage on a Sunday and apparently holidays like Veteran's Day.
If you click to "find a plan," or if you click to "create an account and apply," you get a screen that reads, "The system is available Monday through Saturday 6 a.m.-10p.m. Please visit us during those hours."
As you can imagine if you pick up the phone to call, a message said, "Thank you for calling MNsure, we are closed in observance of the holiday, please visit our website MNSure.com."
Technically, the website is MNsure.gov, but ".com" will get you there and you can find some information even though it's not during the website's business hours.
There is a frequently asked questions section, which itemizes among other things, who is qualified for MNsure. By the way, the answer is any Minnesota resident.
The enrollment window is open until March 31, and the plans purchased now will go into effect January 1, 2014.
According to the website, when medical coverage searches are not available, the site is undergoing needed maintenance.
