Minneapolis - It's officially flu season according to the Center for Disease Control & Prevention. While influenza has yet to rear its ugly head in Minnesota, it won't be long before it does.

Flu can be deadly. In Minnesota, 201 people died from influenza and its complications during the 2012-2013 flu season.

Last flu season in Minnesota, 3,066 people were hospitalized due to the flu. People age 65 and older made up the vast majority of flu hospitalizations.

Influenza outbreaks were reported in 487 schools and 209 longterm care facilities. For complete data of last year's flu season, check out the Minnesota Department of Health's website.

In Minnesota, the number of flu cases spiked in late December through early January.
