GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The Twin Cities woman who has garnered international attention after being dubbed the "neighbor from hell" has been sentenced to two consecutive probationary terms of five years.
Court officials said that Lori Christensen will likely serve about 8 years and 2 months of probation.
Christensen had agreed with prosecutors to a 10-year probation, but filed a motion to withdraw her guilty plea, last month. The judge denied the motion, so after Christensen refused to sign the plea agreement, the judge set a Blakely trial date.
A Blakely trial is used when the state is seeking stiffer punishment than what the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines recommends. The trial was supposed to start on Monday, but was waived at the last minute, when Christensen agreed to slightly modified probation agreement.
Christensen, 50, pleaded guilty in July to violating a restraining order against her old neighbors in White Bear Lake.
She was caught on video carrying signs directed at her neighbors. One of them read "I saw mommy kissing a breathalyzer." It appeared to be directed to her neighbors Kim and Greg Hoffman. Kim is a recovering alcoholic.
The two families said that the neighborhood dispute started several years ago when their children got into a typical argument between neighborhood kids.
