GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Halloween can be frightening for our furry friends in more ways than one.

Whether it's having to wear a costume, the temptation of  treats, or the noises pet owners need to be careful around the season.

Cheryl Truskolaski with Petco visited KARE 11 Sunrise to offer some safety tips for our pets.

  • - Choose the right costume for your pet: one size does not fit all & fabric matters
  • - Keep candies away from pets; call vet or animal poison control if pet ingests something toxic
  • - Be sensitive to the noises associated with trick-or-treaters
  • - Keep pets calm and away from the door during peak trick or treat time

You can also participate in the free pet costume contests at all Petco locations Saturday, October 26 at 2:00 p.m..

Or submit a picture of your pet in its costume for Petco's pet costume photo contest on their Facebook page.

The three furry friends who visited Sunrise are Monty, Phoebe and Piper, and are all up for adoption Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Eden Prairie Petco, 8020 Glen Lane, 952-829-8808.
