ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Paul Police confirm that a pregnant teenager was struck by a hit-and-run driver Monday night on the city's east side.
The 16-year-old was walking across a Arcade Street on the south side of Minnehaha Boulevard when she was struck at 7:53 p.m. The driver was eastbound on Minnehaha and made an illegal right turn onto Arcade, on a red light, police said, before striking the teenager.
She was rushed to Regions Hospital and is expected to survive, although police could not comment on her exact condition or the extent of the girl's injuries.
A police spokesman says a witness approached a police officer at a nearby gas station shortly after the incident and pointed out a Pontiac Grand Am as the car that had struck the teen.
Officers arrested the car's driver, a 21-year-old St. Paul man, and booked him on suspicion of criminal vehicular operation.
