CHASKA, Minn -- When Jacob Tessman talks, he tends to use words like "grateful" and "blessed".

A young man with broad shoulders and bright, lively eyes, Jacob will also toss in words like "fortunate" and "lucky", when describing himself. But, perhaps the word that might best sums-up this senior at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska, is "faithful".

Jacob makes no secret that religion plays a big part in who he is, and, he says his faith has helped him to attain his goals.

"God's plan doesn't happen in a day", says Jacob. "It's a long process and everything happens for a reason."

Jacob has put-up impressive numbers in the classroom. An honor student with a 3-point-8-2 GPA, Jacob gives his best in the classroom and, out in the community as well.

Jacob participated in a week-long mission trip to the Dominican Republic last November, where he served at an orphanage for disabled children and helped supply food donations to needy families.

Says Jacob, "I believe that God was leading me to speak to those kids and to the people down there, just showing them my faith and my works and I truly want to go back, and I truly want to do more mission trips down there, or wherever God leads me."

A scratch golfer and a 3-year captain on the school golf team, Jacob also caddies in the summer.

Says Jacob, "I fell in love with it right away.  I love to work hard and I love to be outside and be around golf, and caddying is a perfect fit."

The combination of Jacob's hard work in the classroom and his excellence as a caddy earned him a prestigious Evans scholarship to the University of Minnesota.  A gift for which Jacob says he is truly grateful, because it will allow him to pursue his greater goal of helping others.

"That's huge", says Jacob. "Because if I wouldn't have gotten this scholarship I probably would have gone into a 4-years degree instead of 8, or 10 or 12 years of Med. School and learning the medicine area. I would have probably gone into engineering."

As it is, with his scholarship Jacob plans to pursue Orthopedic Surgery, while still hoping to find his way on to the Golden Gopher Golf team. He knows it's a long-shot but don't bet against him, after all, Jacob Tessman is a man of faith.
