"I need to share my experiences with others living with disabilities, to help transform what their horizon is."
Matthew Sanford works under the simple notion that the mind and body work best together. He lives this mantra everyday, and for the past 10 years has been teaching it to others at Courage Center through adaptive yoga.
At the age of 13, Matthew became paralyzed from the chest down in a car accident that took the life of his father and sister. Teaching the adaptive yoga class at Courage Center has allowed him to bring purpose to his life experiences and hardships. For many of his students, the yoga class is the highlight of their week. The fact that Matthew can relate to their disabilities encourages these students to try things they never imagined would be possible.
Matthew made his experience with the power of mind-body connection his passion. He is a recognized public speaker and in 2006 wrote the book "Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence". Matthew has started his own non-profit organization, Mind Body Solutions, to share the knowledge of the mind-body connection with others of all abilities.
