"Everyone needs a support system. Find what you are passionate about and help in that area."
Everywhere, that's the best word to describe where Roberta Blomster's volunteer experiences have taken her. Roberta serves as a spokesperson and advocate for people with developmental disabilities. Her efforts have taken her from the state capitol to the nation's capitol and beyond.
Roberta's primary volunteer responsibilities are with the Special Olympics of Minnesota. She started as an athlete but has taken her involvement to other areas. She is currently a coach, trainer, Global Messenger, columnist, and advisor to the P.A.W.S. sled dog program. Her work with the Special Olympics has even take her to Panama.
Roberta's volunteer efforts have gone beyond the athletic arena and entered the world of politics. She was appointed to the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities, has testified at the Capitol and served on committees to change the language of state laws. Her efforts have changed the perception of adults with disabilities across the globe, literally.
Roberta believes that she can do anything, and it shows!
