"Try it. You get a good workout and a good feeling."
A leaf blower, lawn mower and a snow blower... those are the tools 14 year old John Sloan uses to help families battling cancer. When John was in sixth grade, his friend's dad was diagnosed with the disease. So John decided to raise money to help the family. That was the beginning of Kids Against Cancer.
John and his buddies now mow lawns, clear driveways of snow, and hope to soon start roofing houses... all to earn cash for St. Cloud area families facing cancer. And they have no problem finding customers because those customers know the money is going to a good cause.
Money raised has helped replace a broken washing machine, purchase memorial trees and pay bills. Kids Against Cancer even bought a video game system for a 1st grader dying of cancer to bring him joy in his last days.
John's friend's dad eventually passed on, but now John's friend is part of his crew.
Kids Against Cancer delivers "good feelings" to volunteers and recipients alike. And that, John says, is addictive.
"Once you start, it's kind of hard to stop."
