  • Interestingly enough, Dave started in television as a TV. He was the mascot for KSTC Channel 45 in the Twin Cities and wore a giant, orange TV costume.  From there, made stops at KAAL-TV, Fox Sports Net, and KMSP Fox-9.  You may also have seen him in the air!  He's logged hundreds of hours as a reporter and photographer in various news helicopters.

Dave sees news reporting as a "daily adventure," as you "never know how the day will unfold and what you'll learn."  In his spare time, you'll find him playing sports (both real and fantasy), going to a small-college football game, on the golf course, training for an adventure race, or at a local coffee shop.  "I'm thrilled to be working in the Twin Cities," says Dave.  It's an area I truly love."

Describe your perfect day: I'd jump in the Sky-11 helicopter and head up north to play golf at Giants Ridge. Fly back. Hop on a boat and enjoy a beautiful Minnesota lake. Go for a run. Sit on a patio with friends, eat, and laugh until it hurts. Then beat said friends in fantasy football.

    Favorite movie:  The Fugitive.

The person I most admire: My parents.

Favorite CD/Album:  What's an album? The first CD I bought was "Cracked Rear View" by Hootie and the Blowfish. I may or may not have had a boy band CD or two. Don't laugh. So did you.

Favorite subject in school:  I've used skills that I learned in my speech and debate classes the most throughout my career. The ability to think on your feet, take in loads of information, and re-tell it in an interesting way is foundational in news media.

Favorite story you ever worked on:  I had the opportunity to sit down with Tony Dungy and ask him about winning a Super Bowl, his career, and coaching philosophy. It was a total thrill. He said, "Dave, the reason I love sports is because you don't win every week and it teaches you to bounce back from adversity." I'll never forget it.

Favorite food:  Feel free to take me out for pizza 7 days a week. Anyone?

Favorite book:  My two favorite books on television news are "It Takes More than Good Looks" by Wayne Freedman and "A Few Marbles Left: A Close-up Look at TV News in All It's Agonizing, Maddening Lunacy (And It's Occasional Moments of Glory)" by John Corcoran. Long title, but laugh out loud.

I will always find new insight on life by reading the Bible, too.

Alma mater:  Bethel University. They were some of the best years of my life. Go Royals!

Why do you like your job?  It's different everyday. The ability to be flexible and adapt are key. One day, I covered a story about a lawsuit within the Minneapolis Police Department then onto a man falling through the ice, and later went live at the scene of a hunting accident. My head was spinning, but I learned a ton.

Dream story:  The Vikings winning their first Super Bowl.

Family:  My two awesome parents, Rick and Diane, live in Shoreview. My brother and I are very close and he lives in Minneapolis. All three are a huge blessing in my life and encourage me to grow in many ways.
