MINNEAPOLIS -- The 30th running of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon is taking place today. Nearly 20,000 people will cross the finish line and 300,000 will be cheering them on.
TC 5K - Minnesota Olympian, Carrie Tollefson secured her second win of the TC 5K in 16 minutes, 29 seconds. In the men's race, a group of students from the University of Minnesota ran as the lead pack until Adam Zutz broke away with 1000 meters left, breaking the tape in 15:01.
TC 10K - Jeremy Cook of Hudson, Wis., won the TC 10K with a time of 34:28. For the women, Amanda Lee of Flagstaff, Ariz. took home the title with a time of 36:48.
Medtronic TC 10 Mile - The men's champion is Mohamed Trafeh, who ran 46:46, just eleven seconds off course record pace. Janet Cherobon-Bawcom claimed the women's title with a time of 54:15.
Medtronic TC Marathon - Sammy Malakwen, a 33-year-old Kenya native who lives and trains for part of the year in Two Harbors, finished in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 11 seconds in his first Twin Cities Marathon. Yeshimebet Tadesse-Bifa, 23, of Ethiopia, won the women's race in 2:28:24.
