According to data released in March 2012:
• Veterans who have served on active duty since 9/11/01 are experiencing a 12.1 percent unemployment rate, some 40 percent higher than the national average of 8.3 percent
• Young male veterans under 25 are experiencing a 29.1 percent unemployment rate, 2/3rds higher than the 17.9 percent for their civilian counterparts
• Overall veteran unemployment for all ages is 8.3 percent, tracking the national average - but this is largely a factor of the fact that of 26.9 million veterans, only 8.9 percent (2.4 million) have served since 9/11/01 - so this is really a crisis affecting those who have served over the past 11 years.
