MINNEAPOLIS - Trees for the Troops started in 2005 and in it's first year 2000 trees were delivered to nine military bases, this year it is going to be nearly 17,000 trees going to 60 military bases.

Christmas tree growers for years have been providing trees for service members but in 2005 the foundation of the National Christmas Tree Association took it on as a project and since then they have delivered 103,000 free, farm grown Christmas trees.

FedEx is the corporate sponsor and they are key to the project's success because they provide the drivers and the trucks to get the trees to their destination.
