MINNEAPOLIS - A Minneapolis woman has been sentenced to nearly 11 years in prison for the death of her 2-year-old daughter.
Twenty-three-year-old Deqa Mohamed Yusuf was sentenced Friday on a charge of second-degree murder.
Yusuf pleaded guilty in November. According to the criminal complaint, police were sent to her northeast Minneapolis apartment late on May 31.
Yusuf was screaming that her daughter was dead. While police administered CPR, Yusuf mentioned the bathtub, which was nearly full. Yusuf said she had left her daughter to get something from another room.
The Hennepin County Attorney's office says Yusuf was clearly drunk. Her daughter was pronounced dead on June 17.
In court, Yusuf told the judge she misses her daughter "every second of my life."
