MINNEAPOLIS - Construction bids are due for companies angling to build the new Minnesota Vikings stadium in downtown Minneapolis.

The deadline to submit bids is Monday.

At least six firms have expressed interest in building the $975 million stadium, including three Minnesota companies: Mortenson Construction and Kraus-Anderson of Minneapolis, and Loeffler Construction of Lakeville.

The three other firms are Gilbane Building Companies of Rhode Island, Skanska of New Jersey and Hunt Construction of Arizona.

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority will pick and announce a construction company in early February. The stadium architect will be Dallas-based HKS Inc., which previously designed NFL stadiums for the Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts.

Team officials and the sports authority hope to have the stadium ready for the 2016 Vikings season.
