FARIBAULT, Minn. A Minnesota mother got the call she was waiting for Monday evening, the one from her son saying he was safe in the Philippines.

Lori Kaderlik has been anxious since seeing the damage from the historic typhoon that came ashore in the Philippines on Friday, one day after she last spoke to her son Chris.

"I am worried, because we've see a lot of pictures. What I saw on the news today was not pretty. It was kind of scary," Kaderlik said, minutes before the phone rang.

Chris, a sergeant in the U.S. Army, is on leave visiting his wife and children who live fulltime in the Philippines.

Relief came about suppertime, when Kaderlik received a call from her son saying his family was fine and that they had missed the worst of the storm.

"I'm breathing again," said Kaderlik. "Feels good, feels good to know that everything's okay. I will sleep good tonight."
