ST. PAUL, Minn. - Flags will fly at half-staff at state and federal buildings across Minnesota Wednesday in honor of a Minnesota Marine killed in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan.

Governor Mark Dayton gave that directive in honor and remembrance of 23-year-old Marine Lance Corporal Dale W. Means, who grew up in the community of New Prague.

Means, a 2007 graduate of New Prague High School, died November 18 when the convoy he was riding in was rocked by an improvised explosive device (IED). He joined the Marines in January of 2011, and deployed to Afghanistan in July of 2012.

He and his wife Andrea were stationed at Camp Lejeune, as part of the Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Means was an honored Marine, having been awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
