It's not just beer that makes Milwaukee famous. Also born in Milwaukee, Guitars for Vets, is a non-profit with a mission: "enhance the lives of ailing and injured vets by providing them with guitars and music instruction. Through self expression and the healing power of music, it is the intent of Guitars for Vets is to restore the feelings of joy and purpose that can be lost after suffering trauma." More can be learned by clicking here.

Known for sharing his woodworking skills with the community, George Vondriska, owner of the Wild Earth Woodworking School in rural Hudson, hosted the first project of building twenty guitars in two days. To learn about the school click here.

The experience of working with 80 other volunteers building the instruments will be chronicled in an upcoming Hartbeat. If your curiosity is piqued, my colleagues, Julianna Olson and Monica Hanson, produced a story for KARE11 about the event on its first day. You can view it by clicking here.

Stay tuned for more...yes, there are strings attached.
