GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Recently, KARE 11's Jeff Olsen did an Extra featuring a body monitoring device. I was chosen along with four other co-workers to wear this armband for several weeks. It would track calories burned, steps taken, overall activity, even sleep. I enjoy being active and strive to be physically fit, so I was looking forward to using this device.

Even though going into this "experiment" I made no goals of losing weight or intentionally increasing my fitness level, I found myself having better workouts at the gym. The armband would give me instant feedback and information about my physical activity.  As a result, I naturally wanted to improve it, so my intensity increased at the gym.

Anything you track, you improve. Awareness leads to improvement. Information equals power. The same goes for money. When you merely make yourself aware of your spending and saving habits by tracking them on a budget, you'll become more efficient.

I always say, if you get on a budget and track your incoming and outgoing, you'll feel like you got a raise. Not because it's some sort of magical phenomena. But rather a budget FORCES you to keep tabs on your money! And like your physical health, anything you track, you'll naturally improve.

Here's is Jeff Olsen's Extra Body monitor provided KARE11 staffers suprising results.
