This week marks my 18th anniversary at KARE 11. A lot of people ask me why I have been there for so long. There are a lot of reasons. Number one.. I love my work.
Also, our diverse collection of KARE folks really are family. We have our ups and downs and water that has long ago gone way under the bridge. Knowing each other's strengths and weaknesses has somehow made us stronger as a whole. We pull together.
It is rare to have a newsroom where you can be there for more than 10 years and still be considered a "newcomer."
Rarer still in television news is having a management team that has been there for as long as you have. I was at my last station for about four years and had three different bosses. At KARE I have had two news directors.
Tom Lindner was number two.. in the top job for about, 15-16 years.
He interviewed me along with then news director Janet Mason. You need to know news directors don't last that long in this business. But, business being business, I found out Wednesday that Tom and the station are parting ways.
I just want to say, thank you, Tom, for believing in me and letting me be a part of that family. Thank you for being the working woman's dream boss by supporting me in being a working mother. No one has been more flexible in helping people live their lives. Thanks for letting us try the things we wanted to try, for letting us make mistakes, and going to bat for us. Not saying hello to you every morning will be... weird. This is a sad day for all of us.
There are so many people who make KARE what it is. The people you see on TV are just a small part of it, and not the most important part by a long shot.
Tom is one of those people who has been a very important part, and I just wanted you to know he will be missed.
