MINNEAPOLIS -- It's a job tough job market out there, so when you send in your resume and land that interview, don't mess it up.

A new CareerBuilder survey found that some job seekers are not leaving employers with the best impressions. In fact, 71 percent of hiring managers said the most common mistake candidates made was answering their cell phones or texting during the interview. Also topping the list was dressing inappropriately or appearing disinterested or arrogant.

Jeremy Berg of BERG Professional Staffing has spent his entire career recruiting people. He can tell you a few hiring horror stories of his own.

"I'm sitting right out here and the conference rooms are right next door and all of sudden you hear this phone ring and you hear them say, 'hold on a second,'" he said.

Ask around his office and the stories get better.

"I had someone come in purple sweatpants one time. He was interested in a high level accounting job and he was wearing sweatpants," Zach Jones, a fellow recruiter at BERG Professional Staffing, said.

Other interview mistakes include speaking negatively about a current or previous employer, chewing gum and not providing specific answers or asking good questions.

The bottom line is this: A lot of people don't even get an interview so when you do, pay attention to these do's and don'ts.
