New Year's Eve isn't just revelry for adults. Family friendly celebrations were abundant across the Twin Cities tonight.

The Roseville Skating Center hosted New Year's Eve on Ice for the 20th year, with indoor and outdoor skating, a bounce house and a countdown at 9:30pm. It's where 4 year old Haakon Ostrem celebrated his goal, skating in the New Year by playing hockey with his parents.

"We have been coming here since our little guy was two, we had him on skates that year and every year he gets better and better. We absolutely love it," said Amy Ostrem, his mother, of Plymouth.

The Mall of America hosted at Rock the Universe celebration for families until midnight, in the Nickelodeon Universe area, complete with contests like an air guitar contest and a dance party. Families could even make their own rock videos. The dance party drew Tina Stennes and Tony Castro, of Edina, who came especially for their two daughters, stepsisters, Ava and Ava, ages 6 and 7.

"We like dancing a lot, it's kind of our thing," the sisters said, in between a break after dancing to Gagnam Style. "We are going to count until the ball drops and then it will be New Years!"

While families headed home earlier, some parties stretched past midnight, like the Crystal Ball's Imagine Gala at International Market Square, which ends at 2am. Organizers say around 1,500 people attended, on three separate floors spanning VIP seating and general admission. Tickets sold out, prompting the event organizers to plan for a fourth floor of celebrations next year.
