DULUTH, Minn. - On Hollywood's biggest night, all eyes were on the stars, but for the Diaz family watching in Duluth, there was much more to watch than just the glitz and glamour.

No star could outshine Abe Diaz, a Duluth East grad who landed a gig handing out Oscar statues.

"We're just so thrilled. I mean it's unexpected," Gina Diaz, Abe's mother said.

It was unexpected because out of more than 100,000 video entries for the Oscar Experience College Search by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and mtvU, Diaz's 40-second ode to his favorite directors got picked.

He was one of six students selected to hand out Oscars after showing how he would contribute to the future of movies.

"I just want to bring my own unique style," he said in the video.

Diaz is studying chemistry and film at DePaul University in Chicago, but he could be on a fast track to Hollywood.

Last night after the show Diaz tweeted, "Inspirational pep talk from Ben Affleck? I'll take it."
