ST. PAUL, Minn. - Flu-related deaths in Minnesota continue to rise, even as the influenza season wanes.

The Minnesota Department of Health said Thursday another 17 flu-related deaths were confirmed last week. That brings the number of flu-related deaths in Minnesota to 165 since the start of this flu season.

Minnesota Public Radio News reports Minnesota's flu outbreak peaked in January and since then flu activity has declined sharply. Health officials say last week 31 people were hospitalized with laboratory-confirmed flu. That compares with hundreds of people per week during the height of the flu outbreak.

Only two long-term care facilities in Minnesota had confirmed flu outbreaks last week. And four Minnesota schools reported outbreaks of influenza-like illness.
