MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota native Ben Utecht suffered his first concussion while playing for the University of Minnesota followed by four others as a professional football player for the Indianapolis Colts.

Utecht was a tight end and offensive player and took many direct hits that led to being knocked out though he only stayed out of the game for a few days after each concussion.

After four seasons with the Colts, Utecht was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals.  During a practice he suffered his fifth and career-ending concussion.  This last hit began an eight to nine month rehabilitation period.  At only 30 Utecht still experiences moments of short and long term memory loss.

Utecht wants to share his experience with young athletes to help them understand the seriousness of concussions.  He has begun a new phase of his career as a professional singer touring with inspirational singer Jim Brickman.
