ROSEMOUNT, Minn. - Volunteers are gathering Saturday to search for the body of Kira Trevino, the 30-year-old St. Paul woman who has been missing since February 21.

The group, comprised of friends of Trevino and strangers who never met her but want to help, is meeting near Spring Park in Rosemount at 12:00 p.m. to search the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.

Sgt. Paul Paulos with the St. Paul Police Department says there is no specific evidence to indicate Trevino's body may be in that area, but he says police always appreciate "an extra set of eyes" in situations like this.

Paulos says St. Paul Police will meet with the group prior to the search and remind them of basic safety precautions they should take while searching the area, such as not disturbing a scene if they find something suspicious.

Kira Trevino was reported missing by her husband, Jeffery Trevino, on February 24. He said he last saw Kira on Friday, February 22 when she left their St. Paul home to run errands and go to work at a store in the Mall of America.

Less than a week later, Jeffery Trevino was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder after police found "copious amounts of blood" and evidence of extensive clean-up in their home.

Jodie Leko of St. Paul never knew Kira but says she felt compelled to search for Kira's body to give her family some closure. Leko says she's been communicating with Kira's friends to map out possible routes Jeffery may have driven and areas that he is familiar with.

If you would like to join in Saturday's search, meet at 13690 Pine Bend Trail in Rosemount. Organizers are asking volunteers to wear bright colors, bring a fully-charged cell phone and wear appropriate clothes for the weather.
