ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The pace of the Jeffery Trevino murder trial has slowed considerably as the state begins to introduce evidence found at the home Trevino shared with his wife Kira Steger.

Trevino has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Steger's body was found several weeks after Trevino first reported her missing.

Norman Kelch, of Louisiana, told the jury he was searching for his granddaughter in March, near Keller Lake in St. Paul, when he noticed a plastic bag in a ditch.

"I opened the bag up a little more. I seen bloody objects in the bag. A bloody cloth or something. That's all I know," he said.

Police would later say that pillow case had stains on it that match Kira Steger's DNA profile.

DNA evidence will be the subject of this trial in the coming days after two Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigators who processed the couple's home on East Iowa Avenue in St. Paul were also called to the stand.

Both took jurors through a number of rooms in the home where possible blood stains were marked and photographed. Those photos were shown in court and the majority of them were taken in the master bedroom.

Defense Attorney John Conard argued the preliminary blood test are only presumptive. We expect to hear much more about further testing on the stains on Wednesday.

Tuesday was the first time we saw any emotion from the defendant, who slightly smiled at his 15-year-old daughter from a different relationship. She was sitting in the front row with the rest of Trevino's family. She did offer a short testimony earlier in the trial.

The Steger family has not dwindled in numbers as the trial continues, taking up the first three rows of the courtroom near the jury box. Many family members can be seen taking copious notes keeping track of witnesses and evidence.
