MINNEAPOLIS - Spring hasn't quite sprung, but spring cleaning is a big key if you are thinking of putting your home on the market.

Stagers are people who are hired to get a home ready to be put on the market. It's a skill that can help homeowners attract buyers and get the best price.

But, if you don't have the cash to hire a stager, Dan and Sharon Mitchell from Simply Staged have some advices in this week's Take KARE of your Money report.

Here are 11 tips all for free and all for you.

#1 Curb Appeal - Often the first thing a buyer sees is a photo online. If the picture doesn't look good on the outside, they may not click to take a look on the inside.

#2 De-clutter and De-personalize - You have to pack up the family photos anyway, tidy things up so the buyers can focus solely on the amenities of the home.

#3 Take advantage of focal points - A home's furnishings should fit the large window, fireplace or buffet.

#4 Lighting - Always have lamps on when you show the home. Lights help to give a room a warm and inviting glow.

#5 Update fixtures and finishes - Replace anything that looks old and worn with current models and colors.

#6 Life - Plants in a room often suggest life and keep a room from feeling stagnant.

#7 Colors - Generally speaking, use one bright accent in a room. Neutral wall colors will help to ensure your home appeals to the largest number of sellers.

#8 Softness - How to create softness depends on the room, but gentleness often makes people feel more welcome.

#9 Clean - Clean the counters, clean the carpet, clean the hardwood and when you're done clean some more.

#10 Fix it - Fix that leaky faucet or any other thing that may distract a buyer.

#11 Priced right - Make sure when everything is done, you price the home correctly so all of your hard work pays off.
