11 jobs with top pay, but do not require a 4-year degree

MINNEAPOLIS - With the kids headed back to school, we searched dozens of websites and different magazines to compile a list of 11 top jobs, which pay well, but do not require a four-year degree.

1. Air-Traffic Controller, which according to careerbuilder.com has a median salary of $85,000 in the Twin Cities.  The website initially told KARE 11 it was $170,000 and after the story aired for broadcast corrected the amount.

2. Court Reporter, which offers jobs starting at $60,000

3. Paralegal Assistant, which does not require post-secondary schooling.

4. Computer IT, Web Development, which has a median wage of $40/hour in the Twin Cities and currently 2,000 job vacancies are listed.

5. Plumber, which requires an apprenticeship, but according to careerbuilder.com the average licensed plumber in the Twin Cities earns $68,000.

6. Electrician, which also requires an apprenticeship, but not a four year degree.

7. Dental Hygienist, with an hourly rate at more than $30/hr.

8. Elevator Installer, with a median income in the Twin Cities at $67,000

9. Welder, Minneapolis Community and Technical College offers a one year certified program and graduates typically find jobs that pay $20/hr.

10. Oil Field Worker, dirty work, but starting pay can be more than $60,000/yr.

11. Photographer, no degree required and freelancers can easily earn more than $50/hr.
