Motivation Monday heads to the beach

CRYSTAL, Minn. -- Digging your heels into the sand sounds pretty good as a long Minnesota winter keeps us in its grip. 

At Hidden Beach Volleyball in Crystal, the sand is available year round, and not just for volleyball.  The warehouse-sized facility houses league play, a sand boot camp and even zumba in the sand.

Fitness expert Chris Freytag visited Hidden Beach Volleyball to check out the benefits of a sand workout.  Trainer Jake Marshman pointed to the resistance sand can add, pushing your workout to another level.

The sand also forces a body to constantly stabilize the core muscles, which adds another layer of difficulty.

For aching joints, sand can cushion a fall, and make plyometrics less damaging for knees.
