NEW YORK - New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says police will assess what security changes might be warranted after a shooting at a popular Manhattan ice rink.

But Kelly noted that Bryant Park is generally "a very safe area," despite the gunfire late Saturday on the ice rink behind the New York Public Library. Two people were wounded in a blast of bullets that sent skaters rushing to safety and left the ice stained with blood.

A 16-year-old has been arrested on attempted murder and other charges. He's being charged as an adult. He's awaiting arraignment, and his lawyer's name wasn't immediately available.

Kelly said Monday that the teen demanded a stranger's jacket and later shot the man after he refused. A 14-year-old bystander also was shot.
