Two Minneapolis gang members were sent to prison for life without the chance for parole Wednesday for shooting a Brooklyn Park man in a north Minneapolis alley.
Cornelius Jackson, 20, and Lamonte Martin, 18, were convicted of killing Christopher Lynch, 19. Prosecutors said Martin was shot execution style last May by Martin and Jackson, who were members of the 19 Block Dipset gang. The shooting took place in the 600 block of Thomas Avenue N.
Prosecutors said Lynch, who was not a gang member, was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The defense said the sentence was an unconstitutionally cruel and unusual punishment for Martin, who committed the crime when he was 17, had an IQ of about 77 and had twice been shot in the head.
Hennepin County District Judge Heidi Shellhas denied a request for a lesser sentence.
