"Every day I volunteer is a rewarding experience."
If it seems impossible to think that one individual can devote 75 years to one organization, then you haven't met Eleanor Jahnke. This spunky 96 year old is one of a kind!
Eleanor started working at Bethesda Hospital as an obstetric nurse in 1935 and spent her entire nursing career at the same place. After retiring in 1977 Eleanor became a Bethesda volunteer.
With her wealth of knowledge about hospital services and programs Eleanor is an important resource for patients, their families and the hospital staff. She volunteers at the front desk, serves on committees, helps fundraise and has helped decorate holiday trees for over 20 years. Eleanor was a key coordinator of Bethesda's 125th year anniversary celebration. She had experience; she'd helped plan the 100th anniversary celebration, too.
Eleanor is a friendly face around the hospital and she likes to keep busy. She has been described as a 'woman on a mission.' She knows everyone at the hospital, and even works with staff and volunteers that she helped deliver as a nurse at Bethesda.
Now that's dedication!
