GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The KARE 11 main conference room is home to a lot of meetings, and we have found that it can be a great place to go green by reducing waste before it becomes waste.
Every day, twice a day producers and reporters filter in to the room to hash out the most important stories of the day. And with some recent changes these gatherings are pretty green.
Everyone used to get a print out of the Daybook, or a list of story ideas for the day that could run 20 to 30 pages long, but currently the Daybook is viewed as a group through a big monitor. The packet is replaced by a one page staffing and logistics schedule.
We also get a little pat on the back for reusable coffee and water containers.
Last week, I accidentally stumbled upon the remains of a lunch meeting that had me a little concerned. Boxed lunch containers in the garbage!
The folks at Rethink Recycling say these boxes can be recycled as long as they don't have food remnants inside.
If you have the option to use real silverware and dishes, do it! With a mini kitchen right next to the conference room, we could do more of that here at KARE, as long as someone volunteers to load and unload the dishwasher.
We are staying in the kitchen next week when we talk recycling your food waste with a compost bin!
Try some technology or maybe real silverware to make your meeting a little greener and head to the Rethink Recycling website to take the pledge to make your workplace greener!
