BELLE PLAINE, Minn. - Flying a helicopter is a precision operation, no doubt about it.
But a project taking place in the skies near Belle Plaine leaves absolutely no room for error.
The chopper went up Thursday morning to finish stringing what Great River Energy spokesman Randy Fordice calls "lead line", power cable that will eventually carry electricity between Hastings and Brookings, SD as part of the Cap X 2020 project.
Pilots pull a cable of up to 6,000 feet up to the top of a 140 foot pole, carefully string it through a guide, and then pull the cable through to the next pole.
Project organizers say today's work will complete a 65-mile stretch that runs from Renville County to Scott County, just west of New Prague.
