GILBERT, Minn. - A teenager is hospitalized after his dirt bike was struck by a train at a crossing near Gilbert late Monday.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's office says 18-year-old Joseph Petterson was trying to cross the tracks near County Road 97 and Cedar Island Drive around 11:15 p.m. when he was struck by a Canadian National Train.

Petterson suffered arm and leg injuries in the collision and was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, where no information has been released on his condition.

Investigators are trying to determine if Petterson was trying to beat the train or if he didn't see it.
