Police were investigating the shooting death of a St. Joseph woman Saturday.
Lacretia Danielle Dixon was shot just before 6:45 a.m. at a townhome complex, and died at St. Cloud Hospital, St. Joseph Police Chief Peter Jansky said.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding warrant and questioned, but police did not specify his relationship to Dixon or where he lives. He was in the Stearns County Jail and may face charges of second-degree murder, Jansky said in a statement.
Police provided few other details.
The last time there was a homicide in St. Joseph was a decade ago when Officer Brian Klinefelter was killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a suspect.
The St. Joseph Police Department, Stearns County sheriff's office and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were investigating Dixon's death.
"There are a lot of kids that live around here, and for their parents to have to kind of explain what happened and why it happened is frustrating," said Chasity Gohman, who lives
kitty-corner from the crime scene, which was cordoned off with yellow tape Saturday evening and guarded by police officers.
"It's just scary," she told the St. Cloud Times. "We moved from St. Cloud to get away from things like this."
St. Joseph is a few miles west of St. Cloud.
