Some people chase storms. Tim Strehlow was more than happy dodging Thursday’s severe weather - until storm damage found him just the same. “It was like 85 and sunny all day and we end up with a tree in our yard,” said Strehlow. Not a black cloud for miles, yet wind gusts near 50 miles an hour did some reverse landscaping in Strehlow’s Minneapolis yard, and the yard just across Como Avenue as well. “We came back and the tree was down,” said Reid Johnson. The maple tree in his yard took down power lines and left his home without electricity. By dinnertime more than 20,000 metro area customers had lost power, many due to downed trees. And consider the plight of Nancy Williams, trapped inside the cab of her delivery truck, when power lines blew down on top of her truck at Redwood St. and Northdale Blvd. in Coon Rapids. Wisely she stay called 911, and stayed in the truck, until help came. “I was a little freaked out because they told me the line was still live,” she said.
