MINNEAPOLIS -- Two people have been charged in the death of homeless man. 38-year-old Robert Bavinck's body was found Friday in a wooded area near West River Road and Lake Street in south Minneapolis.
Hennepin County authorities charged 28-year-old Adam Heldt with 2nd degree murder. 43-year-old Mattie Ann Grassrope has been charged with aiding an offender.
Investigators located surveillance video from earlier in the day that showed the victim, Heldt, and Grassrope leaving a building together.
According to the criminal complaint, Grassrope told investigators Bavinck became loud at a homeless camp. She says Heldt became concerned the noise would draw attention to the camp, so he confronted Bavinck. Grassrope told investigators she saw Heldt attack the victim, hitting him on the head with a rock. Grassrope says she helped Heldt drag the victim's body a short distance away.
When police arrested Heldt, investigators found personal items in Heldt's backpack that allegedly belonged to Bavinck.
