ELK RIVER, Minn. -- Authorities are searching the Mississippi River and Babcock Memorial Park along Highway 10 near Elk River for a missing 52-year-old man.
Steven Hanson's wife reported him missing Thursday. Authorities believe Hanson was despondent over work and financial issues.
Hanson failed to show up to work in Plymouth on Thursday. He apparently made a phone call to his bank.
Hanson's car was found in the parking lot of Babcock Memorial Park. Authorities say there are footprints leading from Hanson's car to the river.
Crews searched the park on foot while authorities searched the water using a hovercraft. During the search, the hovercraft hit an ice chunk, throwing a Sherburne County Sheriff's deputy into the water. The deputy was rescued, however, the hovercraft's air bladder was ruptured.
Authorities say the river is freezing over quickly, which will prevent them from further water searcher.
The Elk River Police Chief says officers will keep watch on the area during the next few days, but no official searches are planned.
