MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- A Minneapolis woman has been charged in wrong way crash that killed an unborn child earlier this month.
Connie Straud, 42, faces three counts of criminal vehicular homicide and three counts of criminal vehicular operation for the December 5 crash.
Police say Straud was drunk when she went the wrong way down the Interstate 94 exit ramp to 49th Avenue North in Minneapolis. Her Toyota Tundra collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna. A family of seven was inside the minivan.
Tao Thao, the front seat passenger in the minivan was eight months pregnant. Her unborn child died from injuries it suffered in the crash. Thao suffered severe internal bleeding.
Thao's husband, Yia Vang, was driving the Sienna. Their five children, ages 3 to 10, were also in the car. One of the children was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but has since improved.
Of the eight people involved in the crash, only Vang was wearing a seatbelt.
Authorities say Straud's blood alcohol content was .17 at the time of the crash.
Straud is currently not in police custody.
