RENVILLE, Minn. -- A collision between a school bus and a car in southern Minnesota has killed one person and injured at least six others.
Renville County sheriff's officials say a bus carrying the Renville County West boys basketball team hit a car on an icy road north of Renville about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
Authorities say a passenger in the car, 27-year-old Maria Karla Nonweiler, was pronounced dead at the scene. The car's driver, 30-year-old James Nonweiler is hospitalized at North Memorial Medical Center with a bruised lung, liver and several broken bones.
Almost three years to the date, James lost his first wife in a traffic accident and spent three months in the hospital after that crash. James' first wife had given birth to their son, Xavier, a week before the accident.
"It's a lot of tragedy for the family to handle, but faith helps everybody" said James' brother, Cody Strand.
A spokesman at RC Hospital in Olivia says Xavier, and four people on the bus were treated and all have now been released.
A benefit has been set up for the Nonweiler family. Contributions can be made to:
