CHERRY POINT, N.C. -- Officials are investigating the death of a 20-year-old Marine found dead in his barracks in North Carolina during an afternoon inspection.
The Marine Corps said in a news release Friday that 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Daniel W. Sweeney of Coon Rapids, Minn., died Wednesday. The cause of death was still under investigation.
Sweeney had been in the Marines for 19 months and was an AV-8B aircraft mechanic. He was assigned to the Marine Attack Training Squadron 203 (VMAT-203), 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, at Cherry Point.
He graduated from boot camp in San Diego and combat training at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
