NEAR ELK RIVER, Minn. -- A 19-year-old Sherburne County man is dead after an apparent one-car accident Sunday in Haven Township.
Sheriff's deputies received a call of an overturned vehicle in the Elk River near County Road 16 and County Road 20 shortly after 3:30 p.m. According to Sheriff Joel Brott, deputies arrived on the scene and observed a black Chrysler 300 upside down partially submerged in the Elk River.
Deputies called for a tow truck to pull the vehicle out of the water. Once the vehicle was out of the water, they discovered 19-year-old Casey Krogstad of Becker inside the vehicle sitting in the driver's seat. Krogstad was deceased and appeared to have died due to injuries associated with the crash.
The sheriff says the vehicle was significantly damaged.
Dive teams searched the area of the crash and found no evidence that would suggest foul play. Investigators are trying to determine what Krogstad was doing in the hours leading up to the discovery of his body to see what impact his activities may have had on the crash.
