ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- A judge has ordered a mental evaluation for a St. Cloud woman accused of fatally beating her young son with a shoe.

Stearns County District Court Judge Kris Davick-Halfen ordered the competency examination Friday for 31-year-old Nyachual Lungdicok Poch, who remains jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

She is charged with second-degree murder in the April death of Duach Makuach, who was almost 2-years-old when he died.

A complaint accuses Poch of beating the boy because he was crying, causing lacerations to the boy's liver. An autopsy also revealed past injuries.

The St. Cloud Times reports that the county has filed a petition to terminate Poch's parental rights to her other children who were living with her at the time of the boy's death.
