Bob & Julie Little's house in Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- After a complete makeover, Bob and Julie Little's annual holiday display is prompting a new round of wide eyes and 'wows.'
The 55-foot white oak in the Little's Bloomington front yard is dressed up for the holidays with thousands of brand new lights. From its perch high atop Meadowview Road, the glow of the tree can be seen up and down the Minnesota River Valley.
It almost didn't happen this year.
"Christmas night (last year) we had sleet and ice. I lost the whole tree," Bob said.
The Littles had to decide whether they would replace all the lights and continue the tradition.
"Enough people said you can't stop," Bob said smiling.
So in March, all the old lights were taken down. This fall 49,000 new LED bulbs were strung on the tree that sits right outside the Little's kitchen window. The process took three weeks to complete.

"We couldn't be happier. It really has been fun this year," Bob added.
As for the cost of buying, hanging and operating the lights, Bob says the payoff is much higher than the expense.
"Smiles outweigh the costs," Bob said.
The Littles put the lights on for the morning commute from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. The glow returns nights from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.
